Something for the summer…

by

We are so excited about our summer musicals that are touring our parks during the school summer holidays. Our in house creative team have been working hard to put together two shows that will amaze and entertain the whole family!

The journey started way back in March where we held castings for the performers in our exclusive summer musicals. We saw over 500 performers for the shows who were put through their paces in multiple rounds of auditions in order to secure their parts.

So what are these musicals all about I hear you cry??

Cinders – The New Musical
This is a contemporary take on the classic pantomime Cinderella. Join Cinders, Buttons, Prince Charming and the evil step mum Cruella for a side splitting carry on that will have all the family in stitches. Just like any other Pantomime the show is in two acts and features lots of audience interaction so our audiences will get that true feeling of being at a pantomime with lots of other surprises in store too. Cinders has an elaborate stage set that transports the audience into a not too distant world that will no doubt be familiar to them.. You’ll see what we mean when you see the show!!

Clockwork – Music, Mystery and Illusion
With our brand new touring spectacular Clockwork; there is no time for the ordinary. You will be transported into a world of twisted reality where time and clocks are the new gods! […]

Our past, present and future FunStars…

by

Over the winter months, our Ents team handpick the finest entertainers from around the UK to be FunStars. These 300 talented performers get a chance to do everything from being game show hosts and leading messy morning sessions in the kids clubs to starring in the evening shows singing and dancing. Our FunStar team are a core for much of the activity and entertainment which goes on at a Haven park. We love to catch up with past FunStars, see how our current team were influenced by their past trips to Haven and how the children who visit our parks dream of growing up and being one! Past Chris Wright, an auctioneer, was a ‘Havenmate’ back in 1991 at Riviere Sands after his mum pushed him to audition, as she and his dad met on a holiday park in the 60s! ‘It wasn’t a job, it was a way of life. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love. I got to be a celebrity on a small scale, and learnt an enormous amount. The real benefit is how much character it gives you. After a season or two you can walk into any job facing the public. I can still do bits of the party dances! I doubt I could get through an entire song but at the time we were as smooth as a polished Ferrari!’ Present Gracie Zimmermann, a current Haven FunStar, told us her highlights of her […]

Anna’s big day out at Allhallows!

by

It’s hard for us to gush about all of the great things we have to do on and around our parks if we haven’t experienced them first hand. So I went out to Allhallows Holiday Park in Kent for a weekend and these are the unexpected things I found to do! Allhallows sits on a lovely stretch of the Thames, with a large 9 hole golf course at one end of the park and a serene fishing lake at the other. You can discover the area between these two on cycle go karts which look much more effortless than they actually are! I would recommend getting a family size one (with two cycle seats) as at certain points, I had to jump out and push the kart up the hill… Why not give mum an afternoon of pampering in the on-site hair salon. The converted caravan has all of the fancy equipment, reasonable prices and a very jolly award-winning hairdresser! If you fancy relaxing, why not drop by Marty’s radio studio near reception where he broadcasts Allhallows-on-air live from 11am until 2pm every day. Marty loves special guests on his show and takes requests — you can even record a jingle with him!

Our FirstNews competition!

by

As I was growing up in the 60s, it was the norm for mums to be at home and dads to go out to work. These days though, in most families, both parents have to work and bring up the kids. Although this is rewarding, it’s also hard work and I’m sure I’m not the only parent who has wondered at times if their kids really appreciate them?

Well our recent competition with children’s newspaper FirstNews showed us that we are!

We asked the kids to tell us why they should win a Haven family holiday.

Comments such as “my mum and dad work so hard and I think my mum would really enjoy the spa and my dad would love to play golf” or “my parents are working all the time we don’t have much time to spend together as a family” were a common theme across all the entries showing us that kids do appreciate how hard their parents are working and want to find a way to thank them. It was really heart warming to read but it made it so hard for us to decide on the winner!

We read out some of our favourites in the office which received lots of ooh’s and ah’s and comments like “you should give them all a holiday” … but that wasn’t possible as there could be only one winner.

So after much soul searching we chose Emily Barrett for her entry and […]

Nightmare packing to ‘super mum’ packing!

by

We know that being a parent is difficult and we want to help your holiday run as smoothly as it can. Mummy blogger Ruth Davies has decided to help you out with some hints and tips about how to pack, what to pack and we hope it’ll take a worry off your mind! “Travelling light and travelling with children are not concepts which marry particularly well. I remember just after having Florence, I noticed that a quick weekend away to my parents became a major expedition involving me loading up my buggy like a pack horse and not letting go of the handles for fear it would fall backwards with the weight. The thing is, babies and children need lots of stuff in general. There’s so much you simply have to pack: sun cream, nappies, a BIG changing bag… the list is endless. Just because you’re away, it doesn’t mean you don’t need all the same stuff you use at home but then you also need extra holiday bits as well! So, it’s nice to cut a few corners if you can and after a few years of travel with babes, I have my own little list of holiday essentials! Packing essentials: I wouldn’t be away in the sun without the kid’s hats! Not just any hats but waterproof ones which have neck flaps to protect their entire head area and SPF50+ built into the fabric. The sun is very […]
