It’s nearly time for everyone at Haven HQ to gain an extra pair of ears and help out for BBC Children in Need!
Who is it? Nick Moran, General Manager at Littlesea.
What did he do? Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro
How much did he raise? £1000
Why did he do it? It’s something I’ve always wanted to do. Also, I booked it when I’d turned 40 so maybe it was a mid-life thing?
How did he train? I started training in November 2012 when I was at Devon Cliffs (just after I joined Bourne Leisure) and continued with some hill walks around the Purbecks and South West Coastal Path once I joined the team at Littlesea.
Which walk did he do? I joined the Lemosho Route it’s a 7-day trek, 5 up and 2 down. My fellow trekkers were from all walks of life, all ages and from all over the world. There were 27 of us (inc a Leader and Medic) and over 100 ‘rafikis’ (meaning ‘friend’ – they were the porters/cooks/guides etc).
What was the best part? On a personal note there were three aspects that kept me going on the way up; I had a photo of my daughter, Isabella (who’s 9) in my pocket and kept getting it out when I was feeling a bit low – just looking at her gave me a boost, I had a secret stash of liquorice allsorts which gave me a sugar boost, and I knew I was raising money for a great charity and that I had so many supporters back home.
What was the hardest part? One was coming […]
Here at Haven, we’ve been itching our heads and trying to work out the most fun, enjoyable and interactive ways we can raise lots for BBC Children in Need this year.
On some of our parks, they have already been holding sponsored team ‘gungings’, fun days and carnival parades, with Devon Cliffs raising almost £4000 in one weekend and Primrose Valley raising almost £3000!
But don’t worry – you haven’t missed out! There’s loads planned over the coming months, if you’ve booked or are thinking of booking a holiday with us. If you are thinking about visiting Haven over the August Bank Holiday Weekend (24th/25th) why not consider Devon Cliffs, Caister, Allhallows, Seaview, Thorpe Park or Quay West, for starters, who are all holding fun days in aid of the charity; there will be BBQs, family activities, stalls, dog shows (at Thorpe Park) and competitions to keep all of the family busy!
Also, in September, Pudsey Bear will be travelling around the UK coastline, dropping in at each of Haven’s parks. If you are going to be at Haven or even if you live in the local area, come down and see how Pudsey’s travelling to his next park – he is going by lifeboat, fire engine, vintage car and all sorts of other fun vehicles!
We’ve currently raised a massive £90,000 this year for BBC Children in Need – thank you for your support! And be sure to look out for the team’s fun fundraising events in the coming months!
