Sometime after Christmas dinner you’re bound to want to get out a board game and see who the best in your family is!

And just remember, please, it’s “just a game” – that’s if you’re losing anyway, if you’re winning it’s much more than that!

Here’s our favourite 16 board games to get playing this year…

16. Payday

16. Payday

You spend and make money just like in Monopoly but instead it’s like you’re running your very own business, just try not to spend too much each month!

15. Guess Who

15. Guess Who

Who doesn’t love Guess Who? And how comes so many people actually wear beiruts these days?

14. Frustration

14. Frustration

The name basically sells itself! If your character gets jumped on you’re sent back to the beginning. Run, run, as fast as you can!

13. Sorry

13. Sorry

Basically, you just have to get your pieces around the board – doesn’t sound hard does it? But if your opponent gets a Sorry card they can send you all the way back to the beginning…harsh!

12. Mouse Trap

12. Mouse trap

The ultimate board game which most of the time takes more time to actually set up than it does to play it! Nonetheless you can get hours of fun with Mouse Trap!

11. UNO

11. UNO

Don’t forget to shout Uno when you’ve only got one card left. It might be the name of the game, but I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve lost a game because I forgot!

10. Heads Up

Made popular by Ellen Degeneres this amazing phone app has been turned into a board game. It’s simple really, can you guess the person/place/activity you’ve got stuck to your head?

9. Scene It

9. Scene It

The best thing about Scene It is there’s so many different versions of the game, you can choose based on which film you like most…so I’ve gone for Harry Potter!

8. Snakes and Ladders

8. Snakes and Ladders

It could be going all so well for you in Snakes and Ladders but one pesky snake and you fall behind your family and friends! This one never gets old!

7. Scrabble

Test your knowledge of the English dictionary with this fun classic game! See who can come up with the biggest word, and don’t forget you can’t use names!

6. Trivial Pursuit

6. Trivial Pursuit

Test your knowledge of all things Geography, Entertainment, History, Arts & Literature, Science & Nature, and Sports & Leisure. But it might make you hungry because the pieces are shaped like little triangles of cheese!

5. Monopoly

5. Monopoly

Don’t listen to the Monopoly haters! Sure it might go on for hours some times, and some people might cheat and slip themselves more money when they’re the banker, but this is a classic, fun and competitive game that must come out of the cupboard in the festive season!

4. Game of Life

4. Game of Life

This is a classic game of fortune, your goal is to dodge bad luck and make a buck. Along the way, you’ll also earn valuable Life Tiles by doing good deeds, helping your community, or just taking a break from the rat race! Retire with the biggest fortune, and you’ll win!

3. Pie Face

    I love Articulate!

  • Has to be Monopoly. My sister, her partner and I used to play Monopoly every day for awhile. We even had a chart on the wall with how many games we had each won. We also had songs and sayings when we played like when we came out of jail we would sing “I’m coming out, I want the world to know” haha. So yep definitely Monopoly is a big favourite. As a teenager though my sister and I loved the game Dream Phone. It was so funny.
