Now before you start to panic, no you haven’t slept through Summer, right up until November! Here at Haven we work hard to raise money for BBC Children in Need all throughout the year. We’re really excited and honoured to be supporting BBC Children in Need and this year we are pulling out all the stops to try and raise as much money as we can – we are ready to get our paws dirty!
So far we have managed to raise £40,000 and still have loads of really great events lined up. As a result of all this we asked Johnny to give you a rundown of just a few of the fantastic events we have had on our parks and an exciting glimpse into the coming months…
But first lets paws for thought on why we support this wonderful charity. . .
BBC Children in Need have a vision : to ensure that every child in the UK has a childhood which is safe, happy, secure and allows them the chance to reach their potential. BBC Children in Need support 3,000 projects that work with children facing a range of disadvantages throughout the UK – this is the main reason we have chosen to support them for a third year running.
By working with BBC Children in Need we can help make a difference to many children’s lives. We will be keeping you updating with the local charities BBC Children in Need work with near each of our 35 parks, so you can see where and who your kindly donated money is helping.
What have we been up to?
We have had loads of really fun and exciting events taking place over the last couple of months. So let’s dive straight in…
We have to mention Devon Cliffs who had an amazing May bank holiday Sunday raising money for Children In Need which resulted in a phenomenal £3806.12 and still counting.
Our Seashore Park had a bumper weekend on the 25th May where they did a raffle, walk around the park with Pudsey and Bradley, mini stompers with Polly and Ned and managed to raise just under £500.
We also had a huge challenge completed by Scott Walmsley, from our Craig Tara Park, who successfully finished the Edinburgh Marathon in an amazing 4 hours 43 minutes!
What’s happening at the moment?
Keeping in the challenge spirit we have currently got a mammoth challenge being undertaken by some of our Allhallows team! One team are currently travelling around all our parks (yes, every single one!) and completing a challenge at each one whilst another team are on an exercise bike back at the Allhallows attempting to complete the same distance. They are racing to see who can finish this 2,000 mile challenge first. We will let you know as soon as possible the outcome of this legendary contest.
What fun things have we got in store?
Excitement is brewing as the annual Caister community carnival is set to return on 28th June. Here you will find live music, charity stalls, a raffle, a best dressed dog competition (which is unmissable!) and a float parade which will feature floats made on park by team and owners and the local emergency services and local attractions will be bringing their vehicles along too. It promises to be a great day running from 12 noon until 5pm. We are sure they are going to raise a huge amount of money whilst having a really great time!
Over here at Haven HQ we even have our very own Madi and Helen running the Great Eastern Run half marathon this October! They have already got their running shoes in preparation for this huge challenge! Before they signed up for this they were more likely to run to the local pub…
They have a joint target of £500 which they are hoping to smash through.
We also had a delicious bake sale last week at which we raised £535.53! The whole team really rose to the occasion… it was the yeast they could do!
Finally, keep your eyes peeled for the August Bank Holiday weekend because we have Primrose Valley, Reighton Sands, Kiln Park, Marton Mere, Quay West and Presthaven Sands all putting on fantastic fundraising events. If you are at any of these parks during the Bank Holiday try to make some time to enjoy the superb array of events and activities being put on!
