Here at Haven we’ve been raising money for BBC Children in Need for over four years with parks organising different events on park including sponsored cycles, sea swims, mountain walks, cake sales and even jumping out of planes.
Two years ago the entertainment manager at Caister-on-Sea, Carrie Stretton had the bright idea of organising a carnival.
Carrie said “In the last few years we’ve raised around £50,000 by doing various fundraising activities with our guests and owners on park but this one is the biggest and the best!
Every single department on park got involved in the parade decorating quad bikes and turning them into a float for the big parade. There was Charlie and the chocolate factory complete with OOmpa Loompas and even a Batmobile.
It’s a really great event as the local community in the village join in too. There were stalls and tombolas, the local police and the fire brigade.
Some of the highlights were the Humpty Dumpty Brewery serving locally brewed ales, the Sealife centre and Pleasure Wood Hills.
There was lots of live music including the band from Caister High School playing a number of rock songs and Hank B Marvin but the surprise of the day were when some of the team from the Mash and Barrel restaurant took to the stage and impressed the crowds… could they be future Funstars?
Carrie’s ambition for the carnival is that it will extend right into the village next year so watch this space!
