Directors of Walkies’ Guide to the Lake District

Severus and Lily’s final trip as Haven’s Directors of Walkies was to our Lakeland Holiday Park in the Lake District, Cumbria. The weather decided to rain cats a dogs on this trip (ironic!), but Sev and Lily decided to make the most of our classic British weather; and after all, spaniels don’t worry about the rain!

Our Lakeland park offers lots of different activities, including canoeing and kayaking, which our Directors of Walkies were eager to try. Due to the constant downpours this unfortunately didn’t happen, but it’s a great lake to try water sports with your dogs if you do get the chance and the weather is on your side.

    Fell Foot Park

Fell Foot Park is a National Trust open space, located on the banks of Lake Windemere. It was the closest open space the pups could find to our Haven park that gave them the spectacular Lake District views they’d been eager to see. It was great for the dogs to have a run and use up some energy!

    The Lingholme Kitchen and Estate

For beautiful views and even more beautiful food, a visit to the Lingholme Kitchen should definitely be on your list for the Lake District. Sev, Lily and Steph (their human companion) stopped by there for lunch and had a lovely meal, sheltered from the drizzle of the English weather.  It is located near Keswick and on the banks of Derwent Water and they took care of the two soggy spaniels, offering a dog towel at the door to dry off those paws!

    Aira Force Waterfalls

One morning was spent at Aira Force Waterfalls, near Ullswater. The dogs are allowed off leads here (but under control) so Sev and Lily were able to run free exploring the waterfalls, the undergrowth and sniffing everything in sight!

    Other things to try

There were a few things that Sev and Lily didn’t get a chance to see because of the weather during their time in the Lake District. Holker Hall & Gardens is one to visit during your stay at Lakeland, as it is only a 5 minute drive, and holds lots of events through the summer including a pop-up pub and pizza shop which was a shame to miss! The dog friendly beaches at Grange-over-Sands, Bardsea and Arnside are also a must for pet owners.
