This week we are being invited back to JK Rowling’s wizarding world for an adventure in “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” so as it’s a nice play on words we’re looking at some of the fantastic beaches near our parks.
And where else to start than with a beach that was actually featured in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? That’s right, (spoiler alert) Dobby’s final scene was filmed at Freshwater West Beach in Pembrokeshire.
“Such a beautiful place to be with friends”, Dobby was right…
Where to find: Kiln Park (17 miles)
Freshwater West may be one of the beaches with celebrity status near our parks but there’s plenty of other stunning seaside landscapes that you should definitely visit if you’re staying with us.
Where to find: Devon Cliffs (on the park)
This amazing beach at Devon Cliffs is actually one of two incredible Blue Flag Beaches owned by Haven and is extremely popular throughout the summer. If you don’t fancy getting sandy feet or going paddling, you can always enjoy its lovely views from the South Beach Cafe on top of the cliffs.
Where to find: Lydstep Beach (on the park)
Sand, pebbles, stunning wooded cliffs at either end of the beach…Lydstep Beach has everything you need for a gorgeous, peaceful beach. As it is also is privately owned you will no longer have to fight for towel space, your kids can run free and you can sit back, relax on what will feel like your own private haven – and did we mention it’s a Blue Flag Beach too?
Black Rock Sands
Where to find: Greenacres (1 mile)
While the name may suggest it’s full of black rocks, it couldn’t be more different! This gorgeous beach, near Porthmadog in North Wales, has some incredible sand dunes and as you can drive onto the great it’s great for motor boats and water bikes which have a special zone for their use. There are numerous rock pools which are perfect for exploring as they are teaming with marine life!
It may not be a beach, but Alnwick Castle was the set for some of the Hogwarts scenes during Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The castle is not too far away from our gorgeous Northumberland park Haggerston Castle, so if you’re in the area why not check it out?
