As ‘May the fourth’ is upon us, I thought it best to showcase the Hafan Y Mor Sci-Fi Weekender with you! The event is now in its fifth year and ran earlier this year from the 19th – 22nd March. Attracting over 3,000 fans and a universe of sci-fi celebrities the weekend was a huge success.
Fans from all the different realms of the ‘cosplay‘ world got into the spirit of the event by dressing in a whole array of different costumes, such as Darth Vader, Superman and Doctor Who. There was even ‘Duffman’ off The Simpsons, which I was really impressed by.
Attending the event was Royd Tolkien, the great grandson of JRR Tolkien and Graham McTavish who starred in The Hobbit films as Dwalin, one of the dwarves. For all those that watched the Star Trek classic ‘Deep Space Nine’, Rene Auberjonois who played Odo also made an appearance.
There was a wide range of other activities going on throughout the weekend including comic workshops, interviews, Q&A sessions, magician shows, game shows and book readings. One of the most galactic shows was Darth Elvis and The Imperials, who performed a range of Star Wars inspired songs that really got the crowd going!
In an interview with The Daily Post, Johnni Davis, CEO of Chic festivals, said the weekender was “pure escapism” for fans.
“The feedback that we receive from both the acts and the customers is that they love the site and the beautiful backdrop, and people are coming back here. The Sci-Fi Weekender is not about being a member of a panel or an author, it’s about the whole thing together.”
