We have some amazing people on our team, who not only ensure our guests on park have an amazing stay with us, but also help save the lives of others.
We have some inspiring news to share with you today! Dan, one of our Park Rangers at Primrose Valley, is training to become an RNLI lifeboat crew member whilst working at Haven.
Dan’s journey so far
Dan started with Haven in 2017, working as a lifeguard at Primrose Valley. He loved working for Haven and wanted to become an instructor.
At pre-season training, Dan went up to Craig Tara to train as a Park Ranger so he could get stuck in with all of our Nature Rockz activities on park. During his time at the pre-season training, Dan was really inspired by the work that the RNLI do, and loved running the ‘RNLI – Coastal Explorer’ activity. He loves this activity as it helps guests to understand both the beauty of the coast and the open water, but also educates Haven guests and owners about the risks involved and how to stay safe. The Water Smart messaging saves lives and prevents tragedy, and it’s been an honour for him to relay this message to our guests.
Dan took this one step further, and decided on his day off to go to the RNLI’s Filey Lifeboat Station in Yorkshire to find out if there was more he could do.
After a few discussions and a trip around the lifeboat station, Dan dived straight in and began his volunteering journey. His goal is to be part of the Lifeboat Crew, and is now training two evenings a week.
Dan’s motivation is to make a difference, as he has a strong desire to help others and save lives. Not only has Dan been an awesome Lifeguard and a brilliant Ranger, but now Dan is en route to become an RNLI Life boat crew member. Pretty inspirational stuff Dan, we love it.
Our other amazing RNLI crew members
Chris Thomas, who’s worked at Kiln Park for seven years, is also an RNLI crew member at Tenby Lifeboat Station.
Christi Avril is a lifeguard at Berwick, and also volunteer crew member at the RNLI’s Berwick lifeboat station. We also have Ann-Marie Smith, who works with us in our HR department, but she also volunteers to crew the Gravesend RNLI lifeboat where she goes on duty for at least two 12-hour shifts each month.
