ITV’s Victoria was filmed at Thornwick Bay!

ITV’s highly anticipated period drama, Victoria, has returned to our TV screens for a third season. The eight part series, which chronicles the late Queen’s ascent to the throne, is sure to have viewers hooked to their screens at 9pm every Sunday.

What you might not know, however, is that our very own Thornwick Bay Holiday Park offered the perfect filming location for some of the scenes! Here is how you can follow in the footsteps of royalty (OK… more like in the footsteps of leading actress Jenna Coleman).

Thornwick Bay’s breathtaking North Landing beach was selected by producers for coastal scenes due to its impressive landscape. Owned by Haven, this secluded cove offers views of some of the most striking parts of the Great British coastline.

Jenna Coleman, who portrays the 19th century monarch, was spotted by Haven holidaymakers and holiday home owners wearing a period-style costume comprising of a purple and white floral tiered gown and full skirt.

Did you know? Here at Haven, we are no strangers to welcoming the stars of British historical television shows to our coastal locations. BBC’s Poldark was filmed just 15 minutes away from Perran Sands Holiday Park in Perranporth, Cornwall and the original stories were inspired greatly by the stunning landscape in the area.

Other Victoria filming locations for season 3

Producers of the third season of Victoria were inspired by other quintessentially British locations in Yorkshire to use in their historical throwback. Let’s take a look at some other filming locations so that you can go behind the scenes yourself…

    Beverley Minster

Thought you’d spotted Westminster Abbey in the series? Think again! This grand parish church steps in to mimic the famed London landmark throughout the eight episodes. Beverley Minster is a highly impressive structure with grand architecture and intricate stained glass – no wonder it was considered a suitable replacement!

     Castle Howard

Beverley Minster wasn’t the only impressive Yorkshire building that stood in for an iconic London property. This Victoria filming location played the role of Kensington Palace. Castle Howard offers stunning grounds and gardens which are well worth a visit when staying at our Haven parks in Yorkshire.

    Hull Old Town

The historic streets of Hull’s Old Town feature throughout series 3 of Victoria. The cobbled paths and and Victorian buildings maintained their antiquity and helped to transform Hull into Victorian England for the period drama.
