When you’re booking your summer holiday, it can take hundreds of leaflets, hours on the internet and lots of “my sister’s friend’s aunt went there and hated it!” before you decide on the perfect destination for the whole family.
If you’ve got a young family, Haven could be the perfect option though – each of our 35 holiday parks are near to the sea, with lots to do nearby and loads to do on park too – so you don’t have to plan the day or the night!
Below, Sharon and her family took a much needed break and chose Haven’s Perran Sands in Cornwall as their destination. Here, Sharon tells us about their perfect family holiday.
At the end of the holiday I tentatively asked our two kids, aged 8 and 6, “Well, how many marks out of 10 do you give Perran Sands?” I nervously waited for the reply as they chorused “Infinity mummy, it was brilliant! When can we come back?” That’s what every mum and dad wants to hear!
To them, the park in Cornwall was magnificent and who can blame them. They loved the caravan, all mod cons and to them it was like a fun doll’s house, they adored the independence of being on the site gave them confidently scootering off to explore the parks facilities.
For me, I was returning to Haven after having been working there as a student almost 30 years ago on Sandy Bay….and what a difference!
As soon as we had unpacked, we were off to explore the site. Everything the kids saw was followed by comments like, “Wow! Trampolines!”, “When can we go on the diddlers?” and “Can we go on the beach now?”. At the same time mummy and daddy were checking out the variety of restaurants and bars, not to mention the fully stocked supermarket on site.
Every day we found something fun and exciting to do, whether it was the Aqua Jets and Turbo Gliders in the pool, all the various sports and activities (favourite of which was the adventure golf) or, for us, it was the delight of just spending time on the beach – and what a beach it was! It is just a short walk from the site, well patrolled by lifeguards and boasts a small café serving a great cappuccino, selling buckets and spades and hiring out deck chairs, wet suits and surf boards. On the days we visited the beach it was busy without being packed and we had a great time both in and out of the water!
Every night we played Bingo and the kids loved the big stage and the Funstars. They were never brave enough to get on stage (not our two) but they were so engaged with the entertainment. On a rainy day there were lots of activities, and on a sunny day we were all able to scurry off to the beach.
There was so much on offer, and the park is really well designed, with great restaurants and a really well stocked supermarket on site.
The best thing about Perran Sands is the location, the sights and sounds of Perranporth are two minutes away and, a little further afield but still very accessible, was Padstow for those famous Rick Stein fish and chips mmmmm!
We had a great break in Cornwall and returning home, refreshed and relaxed, look back on it as a perfect way to spend some quality time as a family…
We’ll see you again soon Perran Sands!
